POP Youth provide Clean Water to Haiti
As part of the 30 hour famine, the youth of POP collected donations to assist the people of Haiti who are still recovering from the devastating earthquake of 2010 and the aftermath of a cholera outbreak. As part of this effort, the youth teamed up with Clean Water for the World, a local organization that designs and manufactures an efficient and portable water filtration system. This disinfecting water filtration system sanitizes up to five gallons of water per minute and runs on one 40-watt ultraviolet light bulb, or solar power, if necessary. The Extended Ministries Endowment Fund provided a $400 grant toward the purchase of one system. This project has impacted our youth by meeting an immediate physical need of another.

Health Clinic in Southern Sudan
Southern Sudan is emerging from 21 years of civil war that has left over one million civilians dead and over four million displaced into refugee camps. This humanitarian catastrophe has resulted in one of the highest maternal and child death rates in the world. Global Missions of the ELCA and the Sudan Lutheran Community Development (SLCD) have joined together to focus on meeting the human and immediate needs of women and girls in southern Sudan.
PoP members John Musick and Denise Scheer are members of SLCD, and have been traveling to an isolated rural village in southern Sudan for the past four years. They are assisting with the building of a clinic for high risk pregnancies and other basic medical care. A $400 Extended Ministries Endowment Fund grant has been allocated toward the completion cost of this clinic. Through the efforts of John, Denise and others, the women and children will reap the benefits of a health care clinic resulting in an immediate and needed improvement in the quality of life.

Prince of Peace sent two teams, a total of forty-five people, on a Mission Trip to Guatemala during the summer of 2010. Pastor Dave Dockweiler led the two week journey. A total of $48,000 was raised to fund the trip. A wonderful time was had by all involved and much meaningful work was accomplished. We were hosted by the Mission of San Luis Toleman for these two weeks.
